This project took place during the day-long Bersih 3.0 rally in Kuala Lumpur. Bersih 3.0 is the third mass rally by right-thinking citizens' of Malaysia to demand a free and fair election. The project is conceived and funded privately by a group of art friends.
3 big inflatable yellow balls were released into the rallying crowd as a way to elevate the tension that was manufactured by the government and its' allies in the mainstream media. Where demonstrators are often portrayed as rioters and rallies as dangerous events. We want to negate that perception.
We thought it would be harder to label people playing with an oversized ball as rioters. As expected, the crowd started passing the balls along the street. Having fun while exercising the rights as citizens.
This project has no formal title. The title here is solely for the purpose of this website. The video below is shot by Liew Kung Yu.
"Bebola Bersih" can be translated literally as "Clean Balls"
